Welcome!

This is sort of a spin-off from my other blog, The Greener Side of Life. It's been hard to keep it up to date, as things have been pretty hectic here for me lately. I found out I am pregnant June 28th, and have been in a crazed fog as I prepare for the birth of my first child. My fiance and I have moved from our rented home in Pittsburgh to his parents' house in Bucks County to save up some money, since both of our jobs were not able to offer us enough hours for us to live comfortably anymore.

We are currently living with his parents, but will (hopefully) be moving to an apartment in my parents' house before the baby comes, where we can have all of our pets and our own privacy. Granted it is a small 2 bedroom apartment, it is the most economical option for us at this point, and will offer us the greatest chances of getting on our feet with our little one on the way. Given our poor financial state, we will be seeking out and applying for any type of assistance that we will qualify for, so it will be interesting to see how environmentally friendly we can be on a strict WIC and foodstamps budget. It may require some thought and effort, but I want to make the healthiest choices for my family.

Back to living with my future inlaws...While I love my future inlaws, they are not exactly "crunchy." In fact, they are probably like many other Americans in their complete ignorance about chemical contaminants in their daily lives or the importance of recycling. They don't recycle, they frequently buy bottled water and canned soda, and store their chemical cleaners with their food.

I hope to change these types of things in my short time here, and I do hope that I can bring them around to my way of thinking, at least a little bit, when my baby is born. I hate waste, and I don't want my child assuming that wasteful behavior is better since it is "easier" or "more common," etc.

This blog will chronicle the time spent preparing and caring for a new baby, and the research and effort my fiance and I put into bringing a "crunchier" lifestyle into our lives for the sake of our first born.

Enjoy!
